He's Really There!

Elder W. (Clancy) arrived in Asuncion, Paraguay on Jan. 31, 2007.
He was met by the Mission President and his wife, Pres. & Sister Bradley.
When they left the Asuncion Airport, they were taken out to eat. They ate at a Chinese Buffet :-) Then they stayed at the mission home and got a good night's sleep before they were sent to their area.
Asuncion is the capital city and it is divided into smaller towns because it is so big. Clancy says that it is like New York City as far as being divided into towns. He is in Ytororo, which is near a "town" called Nemby. Clancy and his companion walk about 10 miles per day and they have 5 baptisms lined up with about 8 or so more prospective in the next few weeks.
Clancy gets to e-mail his parents once a week. Here are a couple of excerpts from his first message: "The food here isn't bad. It's all the same, pasta, a few chunks of meat and bread, although me and my companion are pretty sure we've eaten cat food. I'm doing good. I've got a decent tan, and blisters. We walk about 10 miles/day. On my first day in our area, we went to central Asuncion and ate at Burger King (it's like a 5 star restaurant out here). The people here are generally really nice and most of them are Catholic. Tell everybody "hi" and if anybody wants to e-mail me, tell them to send it to you or Dad and you can copy/paste it into your letter. Otherwise I'll get in trouble. Love, Elder W."
To send Clancy an e-mail, send it to nbwspud@cox.net

Life in the MTC

Life in the MTC (Mission Training Center) was pretty good for Clancy. He was assigned a companion who went to the Florida (Spanish speaking) mission. While there, they took various classes (Spanish, etc.) Clancy had the opportunity to hear guest speakers such as apostles and general authorities, and a few famous LDS celebs. and singers. Below is a couple of the Elders that were in his District.
"Elders will be Elders!"
One of the things that Clancy really enjoyed about being at the MTC was that on his P-Day (day off), he could go across the street to the Provo temple.

To Paraguay

Monday, 29 January 2007
is the day Clancy leaves the Mission Training Center
in Provo, UT and flies to Asuncion, Paraguay to officially begin his two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints.

Clancy is excited to begin his mission. His Mother is having a hard time dealing with the thought of him leaving the country, but she''ll get over it.

The blog will be updated as soon as we get more information.

The Mission Begins

We went up to the Washington DC temple so Clancy could go before his mission. It was a very special day for all of us.

The Mission Call 10/8/06

We have all been on pins & needles waiting for Clancy's mission call. In the perfect world, I could picture the papers coming in the mail, waiting until the whole family was together, Kirk calling and Clancy opening and reading the call so everybody could celebrate together. Well....Here is how it really went.

Clancy went to the mailbox on Wednesday - no letter, Thursday - no letter, and on Friday there was finally a letter. Levi and I were the only ones home and Clancy was going to rip it open, when I stopped him. "Wait!! You have to use a letter opener so it will be neat, and I have to get my camera, and you'd better go get Levi so someone from the family can wittness it." So much for the perfect world:-)

"Can I open it yet??"

"Do I want to know?"

"Hmm....let's see...."

It is to Boise, Idaho ... just kidding.
"You are assigned to labor in the Paraguay, Asuncion Mission""That's pretty cool! Where is Paraguay???"

This is the official mission call, and below is a map of South America. Paraguay is located in South America. He will be serving a Spanish speaking mission.
